Problem
Marking the official launch of the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) on International Pi Day (π). The challenge was creating a distinct, math-inspired event identity that celebrated core developers, built excitement across the global crypto community, and honored fundamental mathematical constants.
Solution
Grounded the visual narrative in mathematical geometry—drawing inspiration from Archimedes, the Mandelbrot set, and π. Constructed the event logo using modular FVM block structures with a central FVM logo shadow anchor. Scripted a custom Python application to generate a data-driven poster where every dot represents a digit of π, creating a bridge between pure code and visual art.
Story & Execution • The '90s "Incredible Machines" T-Shirt: To surprise and reward core FVM builders, I created a custom illustration inspired by the nostalgic '90s game The Incredible Machine, capturing the playful complexity of smart contract mechanics. • The FVM Hawaiian Shirt: Designed an original, pattern-driven Hawaiian shirt as part of the core brand pack. • Community Impact: Both pieces became instant cult classics—becoming the most requested and worn apparel across Protocol Labs and the entire Filecoin ecosystem to this day.
