Problem
FVM introduced programmable smart contracts (actors) to the Filecoin network. The core challenge was translating a complex execution environment into an intuitive, recognizable visual identity while giving marketing and engineering teams a flexible toolkit for long-term content creation.
Solution
Working in close collaboration with the core FVM engineering team, I designed a brand identity inspired by interlocking, assembleable blocks—a literal and symbolic representation of smart contract composability. Beyond basic guidelines, I built a rich repository of branded illustrations and graphics now continuously leveraged across blogs, ecosystem announcements, and digital media.
Story & Execution • The '90s "Incredible Machines" T-Shirt: To surprise and reward core FVM builders, I created a custom illustration inspired by the nostalgic '90s game The Incredible Machine, capturing the playful complexity of smart contract mechanics. The FVM Hawaiian Shirt: Designed an original, pattern-driven Hawaiian shirt as part of the core brand pack. • Community Impact: Both pieces became instant cult classics—becoming the most requested and worn apparel across Protocol Labs and the entire Filecoin ecosystem to this day.
